Realms of Imagination
What’s your favourite thing about your shortlisted project?
When people see the prints in real life, they talk about them the way I hoped they would – they’re drawn in by the composition, and then they start noticing all the different creatures and plants.
Fang Fang Han
New Talent Animation Category Winner & SAA Cross Category Award Winner
The Tube
Why did you choose to enter this work?
It allowed me to combine my passion for animation with a thought-provoking topic, presenting the concept of data in a humorous and engaging way to captivate and entertain the audience.

Wiggling Words
Why did you choose to enter this work?
I began this project a couple of years ago, wanting to explore my experience of being neurodivergent. I created a lot of images all about the ways in which I struggle with reading and when it was time to make it into a picture book I could not find a happy ending! Finally I realised that creative thinking and determination are what get me through, so my character uses those skills to succeed!
Jun Ioneda
Professional Design, Product and Packaging Category Winner
Hotel Tango Vodka Pride Edition
What’s your favourite thing about your winning project?
The amount of freedom I was given to create this packaging was amazing. For this occasion, it’s specially important for brands to let their queer creators express their vision through their art.
Glen McBeth
AOI Member Cross Category Award Winner
Roman Armpits
Where do you usually work?
I have a studio in my house filled with lots of daft stuff that inspires me. I work with pencil and pen and Photoshop but increasingly Procreate on the Ipad which gives me freedom to create anywhere!
Ines Pagniez

Mum’s Life
What is your best tip for other illustrators?
Don’t listen people that are putting you down about your work. If there aren’t many artist doing your style at the moment, that might be a good thing.

Four Seasons Letterpress Postcards
What is your best tip for other illustrators?
Never merely stay within your comfort zone and repeat what you already know. It’s akin to making superficial efforts without actively using the brain but resorting to mechanical movements.

Harper’s BAZAAR – Limitless Potential

It is my first official commission piece, and the subject is about sport that I like. Additionally, I was very excited to collaborate with Harper’s BAZAAR and Olympic gymnasts Boheng Zhang.

Cats Apartment
What’s your favourite thing about your winning project?
I think the details in the house which reflect the personality of each character is my favourite part. For example, the posters on the walls are mostly showing the interests of each character.

Bang: The Wild Wonders of Earth’s Phenomena
Why did you choose to enter this work?
This is the second book in my natural history series as both an author and an illustrator. It’s not everyday that you can take such a lead with all aspects of a project.
