Why did you choose to enter this work?
I would like everyone to see the combination of printing techniques with my illustration. A good printing technique can enhance the beauty of the artwork.
What’s your favourite thing about your shortlisted project?
I am proud of my careful selection of elements. I incorporate iconic plants, animals, food, etc. that represent each season, and use elements to interact with fonts to make them more dynamic.
What excites you most about being shortlisted?
I am most excited about the extensive promotional efforts of WIA. Being shortlisted in such a major illustration competition holds great prestige and allows more people to become aware of my work.
Where do you usually work?
Typically, I draw on an iPad, do typesetting on a computer, and then select different printing methods based on the situation to present physical copies of my work.
How long did it take to complete your project?
It didn't happen all at once but over about two weeks. I didn't have a tight deadline for this project.
What is your dream commission?
From a spiritual perspective, I prefer commissions that offer me more creative freedom. From a material perspective, I prefer commissions that offer me more money :)
What’s your favourite thing to draw?
Animals, people, landscapes, illustrations, and comics—I enjoy drawing them all. Whenever I realize there's something I'm not good at drawing, I practice until I can express it in my style.
What is your best tip for other illustrators?
Do never merely stay within your comfort zone and repeat what you already know. It's akin to making superficial efforts without actively using the brain but resorting to mechanical movements.
What are your plans for the future?
I feel that the art field has many uncertainties, making it difficult to create a perfect plan. Therefore, I only have a simple and more achievable plan: keep drawing (and publish my comic). (❛◡❛✿)
