The WIA2024 Site Specific shortlist showcases how impactful illustration can be, interweaving into the world around us .
From Community Murals to Formula 1, this category highlights the projects jumping off the page to new realms.

Jasmine Hortop – I am here, I am safe, I am brave, we are together
Professional
Following a three month residency with Reclaim the Sea, a non-profit organisation working with refugees and asylum seekers with sea trauma.
This beautiful project shows a renewed sense of connection to the ocean to raise awareness for refugees with sea trauma to reclaim the sea as a safe space.
The piece uses hand cut and shaped pieces of ply wood, finished with multiple layers of yacht varnish. The beautifully pieces are pictures floating at sea shot with a drone.
Jasmine Hortop is an illustrator based in Cornwall.

We asked her to tell us what her favourite thing about her shortlisted project was?
This piece was the outcome of 4 months volunteering and working immersive with Reclaim The Sea on their summer programme. Time in the ocean together as a group, forming bonds and growing confidence.
Tim Easley – Croydon Community Mural for Let’s Do London Better Campaign
Professional
This energetic mural captures a true sense of community in Croydon, for the Let’s Do London Better campaign.
Taking inspiration from the vibrant music scene and south London’s diverse mix of cultures.
The mural is located within Croydon as a celebration of the local community.
A printed QR code with an animation is also displayed on the mural, which encourages further community interaction.
Tim Easley is a south Londoner based illustrator in Croydon.

We asked him Why he made this piece?
I think that Croydon has a bad reputation and having lived here all my life I wanted to showcase something positive and bright about the town.
Priscilla Tey – Formula 1 Singapore Suite, A City in Nature
Professional
This intricate mural was designed as part of the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Singapore.
Bursting across a 30 meter wall in the VIP suite, the mural celebrates the city fusion of both natural and urban landscape.
The mural has a nod to traditional architectural frames and iconic landmarks creating a playful use of depth. Whilst using lush greenery and vibrant animals to create speed and movement.

Thoughts on Formula 1 Singapore Suite, A City in Nature from one of our Judges:
Incredibly detailed and dynamic design that has a great balance of intensity and negative space creating a compelling composition. I love the illusion of windows and the subdued palette.
Neequaye Dreph Dsane – Visual Artist and Educator
Oren Rozensal – Home in the Valley
New Talent
Inspired by fond childhood memories with their grandparents, this project captures childlike wonder.
The project integrates 3D moving mechanisms inspired by vintage toys to further this feeling of play.
The entire installation spans across the wall to create an immersive world for the viewer to dive into.
Oren Rozensal is an illustrator based in Israel.
Izzy Barrett – Zizzi mural
New Talent
Adorning the walls of popular Italian restaurant Zizzi’s, Farnham this mural takes inspiration from its surroundings.
Combining Farnham’s history of pottery, illustrating Farnham’s ceramic vessels holding a rich banquet of food.
The mural was painted using acrylic paint and beautifully incorporates the space, incorporating the alcove with a house design.
Izzy Barrett is an illustrator based in West Sussex
Sammi Wong – Re-imagine Ipswich – Discover. Connect. Belong.
New Talent
Reimagining their home town, Sammi breaths a fresh sense of vibrancy into the local area.
These illustrative mock ups were applied to the local buildings to celebrating the area creating both familiarity and a sense of belonging.
The playful map design encorperating figurative shapes and iconic landmarks that invite the viewer to look closer at these playful designs.

Why did you make this work:
“This illustration connects people. I love that it has a big impact – every day it helps children who go to the psychologist feel a bit more comfortable, welcome and happy.”
Shortlisted for New Talent Site Specific Category for their project Infinite Space
What’s your favourite thing about your shortlisted project?
“I love how my design came to embody its initial concept of “infinite possibilities.” What started as a local project has grown to gain global recognition, which really shows that anything is possible!”
