Rachael Saunders
Patterned Panoramic of Krka National Park, Croatia

Interview:

Why did you choose to enter this work?
My epic patterned panoramic pays homage to Krka National Park, Croatia, after a visit last year on my honeymoon. I have many fond memories there which I strove to encapsulate in this piece.

What’s your favourite thing about your shortlisted project?
My favourite thing about this project is reflecting on its challenges. The sheer scale and level of detail pushed my skills to the limit and tested my tenacity. I am so proud to have completed it.

What excites you most about being shortlisted?
I am excited for my work to be celebrated amongst so many other talented creatives in one of the most prestigious design competitions in the world.

Where do you usually work?
I work from a home studio, based in Hampshire U.K. My artwork is created almost entirely digitally using a Wacom tablet and iMac, so I spend my days sat at my desk listening to my favourite music.

How long did it take to complete your project?
Overall it took approximately two months to complete this piece. This was mainly because I had to fit it around other commissioned work.

What is your dream commission?
My dream would be to work in this style more often. I would love to see my work blown up on a billboard or printed on beautiful packaging.

What’s your favourite thing to draw?
I love drawing most things and am incredibly inspired when visiting different locations. I always return from a trip craving to document what I have seen in my own visual language.
