The Way Under Our Feet

Book Covers

Commissioned | Professional

Why did you make this work:
The work was created to fulfil the brief set by designer Dan Simpkins. His brief was to illustrate parts of the journey described in the book The Way Under Our Feet. This included lovely details such as the viaduct railway in the top right and the bees kept by the author seen by the cabin.

How was the illustration used:
For the book cover of The Way Under Our Feet

How did you make this work:
This artwork was created using the scratchboard or scraperboard technique. The cover started out as rough pencil sketches to get the layout and details right, then the scratchboard was used to create the final layered illustration. Once this has been done there's no going back! This was then scanned and sent to the designer.
