Reto Crameri
A summer visit to the museum

Commissioned | Professional

Why did you make this work:
The Geneva Museum of Art and History commissioned me to create an illustration about a summer visit to their exhibition. As a starting point I chose one of the museums large mural by Ferdinand Hodler. The historic painting from 1899 shows the retreat of warriors from the battle of Marignano. However, in my version the warriors trade their spears for umbrellas.

How was the illustration used:
The piece was published on the museums social networks and appeared in one of their blog posts.

How did you make this work:
I spent quite a while on sketching. Once I was happy I scanned the design and redrew the elements with the pen tool in Illustrator. Finally I worked on a color theme and made the fine tuning.
