Olga Ptashnik
On the wings in the cities

Children's Publishing

Un-commissioned | Professional

Why did you make this work:
It is a self-initiated creative non-fiction project of the book with an ornithologist Pavel Kvartalnov about animals in the cities. We had a goal to share our passion for a wildlife in the cities and show how many animals are sharing these concrete walls with people.

How was the illustration used:
Full spread book illustrations

How did you make this work:
All illustrations are made in mixed media technique including graphite, watercolours and pencils. My goal as an illustrator was to show animals recognizably yet not in a scientific way, adding a little bit of characters in drawings. Also it was very interesting to find a way to make animals and cities sound together although of different appearances.
