Why did you choose to enter this work?
The opportunity to create a project of this size and complexity doesn’t happen very often for illustrators. I also loved the variety of different cultures it represented.

What’s your favourite thing about your shortlisted project?
I learned cultural details about what made each city/country unique, and what each location was proud of. Also it was interesting to see the different ways the artwork was used in different locations!

What excites you most about being shortlisted?
To be selected alongside hugely creative and talented illustrators is amazing, and I love the spectrum of vibrant styles that were entered. It’s exciting to have my work shown to a wider audience.

Where do you usually work?
I have a cozy space with artwork on the walls, a laptop and iPad, lots of sketchbooks for quick ideas, Posca pens and paint. I have stacks of books and a cabinet with previous project samples.

How long did it take to complete your project?
Around 7 months – there were 40+ locations involved that required key visuals and a mini illustration kit with icons and patterns.

What is your dream commission?
Large site-specific installations and public art, events, colourful psychedelic crosswalk, or a department store installation. I love seeing my work on a large scale in public for people to enjoy.

What’s your favourite thing to draw?
I love drawing complex, colourful illustrations layered with a mix of imagery and hidden details – each time you view it you might see something new!

What is your best tip for other illustrators?
Don’t hold yourself back! Say yes to projects that really push you out of your comfort zone and challenge you – those are usually the best projects in the end. Also, don’t compare yourself to others!

What are your plans for the future?
I would love to be commissioned to create more installation projects for public spaces and limited edition brand collaborations.
