Lina Marcinone
Green Monster Brewery labels

Conceptual and witty label illustrations and seamless pattern for a small craft beer brewery.

Interview:

Why did you choose to enter this work?
I chose to enter this work because I love humour. Although other illustrations were technically more challenging, these ones were funny and filled with witty ideas.

What’s your favourite thing about your shortlisted project?
The feedback when beer producers told me that sellers are drawn to their beer because of the cool labels.

Where do you usually work?
I usually work from my cosy home in the beautiful Vilnius Oldtown as an illustrator, designer, and mom :) And I have a wonderful community of designers-freelancers here, making me feel connected.

How long did it take to complete your project?
It took the entire year. I created five new labels for the beers they already had, and throughout the year, they kept brewing new and interesting beer sorts that I had the opportunity to work on.

What is your dream commission?
I'd love to illustrate something like the Dixit or Codenames board game cards. I am fascinated by the way illustrators bring together several seemingly unrelated things.

What’s your favourite thing to draw?
For me, the most exciting thing is to manage to draw a story, even if there is only one static object in an illustration.

What is your best tip for other illustrators?
Always notice the moment your inner critic starts being a mischievous monster :) Stop him by sharing your work and accepting the actual feedback.

What are your plans for the future?
In short, my plan is to practice more. I aim to enhance my drawing skills, delve deeper into editorial and package illustration, and iron out my artistic style.
