Lea Berndorfer

Interview:

What’s your favourite thing about your shortlisted project?
In this project I learned about the potentials of conveying information and storytelling in interactive infographics.

What excites you most about being shortlisted?
I am delighted to have been shortlisted in the Science and Technology category as I would love to do more work in science communication.

Where do you usually work?
I work at my studio, which I share with 8 other people, in Hamburg. I need my laptop, my sketchbook, my iPad and (during the painting process) a good audiobook.

How long did it take to complete your project?
I worked on my master’s thesis “Not so bright” for a year, including the intensive research and conception phase, the painting process and the finalization of the website.

What’s your favourite thing to draw?
Hands and insects, they have a way of showing up.

What is your best tip for other illustrators?
As I research and think about a topic, I try to directly sketch the gathered information. This lets me come up with new and interesting visual connections and ideas.
