Interview:

Why did you choose to enter this work?
It was a great job, doing a portrait of Morrissey was fun.

What’s your favourite thing about your shortlisted project?
It was a nice opportunity to draw a British street. As a student I spend some time in UK and I enjoyed observing these typical houses + shop-windows. All these impressions influenced the drawing.

What excites you most about being shortlisted?
It's a honour to be part of the shortlist together with so many talented artists!

Where do you usually work?
My studio is located in Berlin, I have 2 work spaces to separate the digital and analogue work. The studio is also filled with a collection of flea-market objects for inspiration.

How long did it take to complete your project?
I had 2 weeks to finish the illustration, the portrait was done quite fast, but then I got lost in researching record-stores, record-covers and the house facades.

What is your dream commission?
I always enjoy projects related to music, like cd-covers, concert-poster or illustrating songs. It’s easy to connect to the subject and I like creating associative and poetic illustrations.

What’s your favourite thing to draw?
I never get tired drawing people, the variety of characters + expression is fascinating. In Berlin you see many interesting people, sitting in a cafe and observing passersby is endless fun for me.

What is your best tip for other illustrators?
Difficult question, focus on subjects you enjoy drawing instead of trying to please the market.

What are your plans for the future?
In the future I would like to develop more projects based on literature or continue working on my own short-stories.
