Grahame Baker-Smith
The Rhythm of the Rain

Commissioned | Professional

Why did you make this work:
I set myself the task of writing something that would illustrate one of the natural processes that occur as part of the life of this planet. The water cycle has always fascinated me, however, I did not want to produce a text book that gave the dry facts but rather something that could be read as a story - that was epic and intimate and linked creatures and people to this ancient cycle.

How was the illustration used:
Children's Picture Book

How did you make this work:
The illustrations were created using a combination of many drawings to establish composition, content and lighting; painted textures scanned into Photoshop and then digital painting over the top using a strictly limited number of brushes in an effort to keep - as much as possible - the ‘signature’ of the artist rather than the stamp of the software.
