Why did you make this work:
We need to talk more, and more honestly about our periods to get rid of the stigma, everyone agrees on that - but does that medal also have a downside? Aren't we confirming the stereotype of the "weaker sex" when we admit that we feel bad a few days a month?

How was the illustration used:
Newspaper

How did you make this work:
I wanted to capture the contradictory feelings women still deal with when it comes to their periods. The struggle between standing up for yourself and keeping quiet is reflected in the picture. The posture and the flag symbolise power, yet if you look twice you see the character is gagged with a sanitary pad.

Biography:
I discovered quite early that images come easier than words. After I graduated in graphic design and advertising, I shifted my focus back to illustrating. I always strive for a significant image that goes hand in hand with the context. That means combining meaning and emotion, while keeping a hint of abstraction. That is why I love illustrating so much. I work and live in Kortrijk, Belgium.
