Elina Ellis
The Truth About Old People

Commissioned | New Talent

Why did you make this work:
The Truth About Old People is a book about all the general misconceptions and beliefs the society has about old age and old people. I wanted to challenge these misconceptions and show old people in a different light. I wanted to tell a story of love, tenderness, joy and above all - happiness, because it is possible to be happy and to enjoy life no matter how old you are.

How was the illustration used:
It is a picture book for all ages

How did you make this work:
For this project I used dip ink pen for the line and acrylic paint for the colour, then I layered the line on top of the paint marks on separate layers in Photoshop.

In 2017 I have won the Macmillan Prize for my book The Truth About Old People, which I am absolutely thrilled about, I was also awarded Golden Pinwheel Grand Award (International) in 2018 in China for the same project.I draw both digitally and using traditional media. I create my own books and illustrate books for others. There is no greater reward for me than to know that my stories and drawings make people smile.
