Grandpa's chair

Children's Publishing

Un-commissioned | New Talent

Why did you make this work:
This was a self-initiated brief, to write and illustrate a book about a grandpa who just loves his chair so much that he had to take it everywhere. Where would his travels take him? I love to make stories which challenge the norms and create slightly absurd situations, stretching the imagination.

How was the illustration used:
A children's picture book

How did you make this work:
The book has been created using a combination of initial drawings, Procreate and monoprinting, using digital media to manipulate hand printed images to create patterns and textures.

Catherine's original degree was in graphic design followed by the Cambridge MA in Children's Book Illustration, where she graduated with distinction in 2021. Her love of combining words and images and making stories developed in her years as a graphic designer and she found a renewed love of children’s stories with her own children; now aged 12 and 15 they continue to inspire her work.
