For the World Illustration Awards 2019 we introduced some new Cross-Category Awards, including an AOI Members Award, the Directory of Illustration Award, and the SAA Agents’ Award for New Talent.
This year, we’re delighted that all of these awards are again on offer, alongside a brand new Innovation Award, supported by It’s Nice That.

Innovation Award supported by It’s Nice That
For the World Illustration Awards 2020, It’s Nice That are supporting our brand-new cross-category Innovation Award!
The winner will be chosen by It’s Nice That from the full shortlist, for a project that for a project displaying considerable innovation and experimentation with the art form.
It’s Nice That believes passionately that creative inspiration is for everyone, and by championing the most exciting and engaging work online, in print and through their events programmes they will open up this world up to the widest possible audience.
Founded in 2007, It’s Nice That has grown across many platforms and now reaches nearly two million people each month. These platforms include the It’s Nice That website, a bi-annual magazine, and our monthly talks series Nicer Tuesdays.
SAA Agents Award for New Talent
“The SAA are very pleased to be supporting the World Illustration Awards for a second year by offering the opportunity to win The SAA Agents Award for New Talent 2020. We hope to build on the success of last year to find a new and exciting illustrator to join one of our super agents for mentoring and career building.” – Caroline Thomson, Arena Illustration.
We’re really excited the Society for Artist’s Agents are once again offering this exciting award. Last year’s winner, Abi Turner (aka PAPERFACE) has just signed up with her first illustration agency Illustration X following her trial representation as part of the Award.

All non-represented shortlisted New Talent entries will be eligible for this award which offers the winner a six-month trial representation with one of the leading SAA Illustration agents, including mentoring and career development.
AOI Members Award
One WIA shortlisted AOI Member will be chosen by AOI Staff to receive the Members’ Award.
“This Award recognises the immense talent of our members, and celebrates the AOI community on a hugely visible platform. These cross-category awards also give us the opportunity to celebrate more illustrators than ever before” – Ren Renwick, CEO, The AOI
The AOI Members Award Winner will receive a complimentary year-long membership plus folio, a copy of the Guide to Law and the current Directories (a package worth £296.95).
To be eligible for this Award, you must be an AOI Member at the time the Awards are announced in October, and don’t forget, AOI Members at the time of entering receive 20% off an unlimited number WIA2020 entries!
DI (Directory of Illustration) Award
The Directory of Illustration staff will select one shortlisted project to win the DI Award. The Winner will receive a single page marketing package in the Directory of Illustration, valued at $2,695 US Dollars.
The programme includes a 100-image professional portfolio on directoryofillustration.com plus a one-on-one consultation with a professional Directory of Illustration marketing consultant on how to best present your work to the American market.
All Cross-Category winners will be presented with a WIA Certificate at the Award Ceremony in London, and will have a profile feature on the AOI website.
