Drawing Diversity: Representation in Children’s Publishing
Practical insights into capturing personality as a route to portraying diverse characters. Book below or via our Eventbrite.
We understood from our Diversity and Equality roundtable talks that some illustrators would value a space to explore how to increase the diversity depicted in their illustration practice. This online session is the fifth of a short series to explore that.
Ruthine Burton, will share her experiences of a personal project in which she explores representation in children’s publishing and the diverse characters she designs and creates in her work. Ruthine, in conversation with AOI board director Montana Forbes, will discuss what inspired the project and why it was important to her. She will discuss the process from observations and development of her artistic impressions, her technique, and her awareness of the impact of representation at an early learning stage.
The session will provide practical insights into capturing personality as a route to portraying diverse characters and will allow a space to respectfully discuss approaches to depicting diversity.
Please note: This online event will not be recorded.
