Our WIA2020 call for entries encouraged illustrators to Be Ambitious, Be Seen, Be Celebrated. This Programme evolves these themes, with industry professionals and illustrators discussing what it takes to create award-winning illustration work.

Be Ambitious: Commissioning Award-Winning Illustration

27 October, 6 – 7pm, £5

The Directory of Illustration’s Elizabeth Owen leads a panel discussion with Daniel Moorey (formerly adamandeveDDB), and Matthew Shearer (Bernstein & Andriulli London), about the process of commissioning award-winning illustration. Hear how creative teams work with illustrators to get the very best results. And what actually makes work great?

Be Seen: Representation, Promotion and Visibility

10 November, 6 – 7pm, £5

WIA2019 SAA Agents Award for New Talent winner PAPERFACE (aka Abi Langridge), joins top UK agents Laura Lee (Debut Art) and Ciara Phelan (Founder and Creative Director, Grand Matter) to discuss the impact of excellent representation for an artist’s career.

They will discuss how a mentoring relationship and professional representation increases an illustrator’s visibility and boosts career prospects, and wider topics such as the importance of increasing diversity within the industry.

Be Celebrated: Meet the WIA2020 Overall Winners

24 November, 4-5pm, £5

The WIA2020 Overall Winners give their insights into their award-winning projects, reflect on their creative processes, and discuss the impact of winning an award on their career.

The AOI’s Derek Brazell will lead the discussion with the two Overall Winners: London based Mariajo Illustrajo, the New Talent Children’s Publishing Winner for ‘Flooded’, her Diploma project at Anglia Ruskin and the Professional Winner, New York based Amber Vittoria, who won the Design, Product & Packaging category for her project ‘Women in the Workplace’. This was created for Facebook’s Analog Lab focusing on the idea of empathy and produced lovely risograph posters.
