This project was a 6-week residency at Facebook’s Analog Lab focusing on the idea of empathy. Inspired by the modern embrace of individuality within office spaces, this risograph poster series leverages bright and colourful portraits of women heading into work.

Brief

Focusing on the theme of empathy, I was asked to create a poster series to be used for internal Facebook office needs, with the audience being Facebook employees.

Process

Historically, women and their personalities tend to be quieted or ignored within an office setting; these portraits aim to be a playful nod to celebrate how society has began to empathize with womanhood and the stories, thoughts, and ideas women bring to the table. The more we as a society see relatable, expressive representations of working women, the more we can continue to embrace all of our peers for their individual perspectives.

Challenges

Learning how to use a risograph to properly fulfill said brief was a lovely and fulfilling challenge.Once each edition was completed, it was available to employees to take for their spaces; having so many women see themselves within these portraits was the most rewarding insight.

Distractions

I was fortunate to have a solid 6-week period to work specifically on this project, which was incredible!

Reflections

I’d experiment with even more analog ideas to bring to digital (which I’ve decided to continue on my own!)

Advice

There is no one correct path that leads to becoming an illustrator; trust your instincts, as they will guide you towards the path meant for you.

Future

I’m continuing to build on what I made at Facebook, but using paint (as many riso shops are closed due to the pandemic)
