Interview:

Preferred Pronoun?
He/Him

Why did you choose to enter this work?
Simply, I was quite proud of the project as a set of illustrations but also the subject matter it covered. It's an important issue and am glad I could offer my skills for the campaign.

What’s your favourite thing about your shortlisted project?
I enjoyed the restraints and challenges of making an illustration to fit various crops and sizes. It's pretty tricky making an image which works for both 16:9 and 9:16 ratios.

What excites you most about being shortlisted?
It's an excellent opportunity to discover and network with other artists I would have potentially missed had they not entered their work.

Where do you usually work?
I split my time between my home office and shared studio space, both in Devon. Since I move about between the two, I work on both my MacBook Pro and iPad Pro, and connect them using Astropad.

How long did it take to complete your project?
Roughly two months.

What is your dream commission?
That's a tough one. Something within the world of design and/or publishing would be nice where I can spend a longer period of time focusing on one thing.

What’s your favourite thing to draw?
It may be basic, but I just really enjoy illustrating people. There are so many characters out there, I feel like I barely scratched the surface. I also love exploring composition.

What is your best tip for other illustrators?
Draw things you enjoy drawing. And if you're stuck on a not-so-exciting brief, make it exciting.

What are your plans for the future?
I'm looking forward to my creative residency in November. I'll be in Tokyo for a month from 21st November to work on a project of my own. Otherwise, I'm hoping to spend more time on personal work.
