Why did you choose to enter this work?
It's a very personal project. I used my own experiences from my childhood to create the story of Hugo and Kris. It's a story about being separated in any way.

What’s your favourite thing about your shortlisted project?
I always wanted to make a publication about this theme. Many people recognize themselves in it.

What excites you most about being shortlisted?
That I can share my publication with a wider audience and to be listed next to lots of amazing illustrators.

Where do you usually work?
I work in my studio in Rotterdam. My studio feels more like my private playground, I'm always happy when I'm there.

How long did it take to complete your project?
Because of the 8 colors and the 2 language versions it took me 3 weeks full time printing. The whole proces from idea to publication took more then 6 months.

What is your dream commission?
To illustrated a children's book book with using the riso technique.

What’s your favourite thing to draw?
Towers, I'm obsesed by towers. I have sketchbooks full with only towers.

What is your best tip for other illustrators?
Make sure to make time for personal projects. In personal projects you can put in so much of your own! Sometimes that can work really good to find your passion.

What are your plans for the future?
Make more publications and enjoy life!
