Formula 1 Singapore Suite, A City in Nature

Mural and Lightbox Installation for the Formula 1 VIP suites

Why did you make this work:
For the SG Formula 1 Grand Prix, the Tourism Board requested wall art that celebrated the unique location of this night time race; a city nestled in nature. I was tasked to show the city's natural and urban landscape, both past and present. Referencing architectural frames from iconic landmarks, I created visual openings that allowed natural motifs to enter into the space and onto the walls.

What materials and techniques did you use?:
I used a combination of Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and Procreate to illustrate the murals. The illustrations were printed on vinyl stickers and adhered to the walls. For the light boxes, the illustrations were printed onto fabric and stretched over a wooden frame so that it could be lit from behind. Layered cutouts were printed onto and cut out from art boards.

How were your illustrations used:
The art was used to cover 30m of wall in the VIP suite at the 2023 F1 Singapore GP. Between bar and food counters, illustrations of doorways to iconic urban gardens in the city (e.g. The Jewel and Park Royal Pickering) were built into light boxes with layered cutouts so that the scenes stood out and lit up during the night race. Artwork featuring the F1 circuit was used at the entrance.
