Preferred Pronoun?
She / Her

Why did you choose to enter this work?
I learnt a lot on this project and am really proud of it. Collaborating with a fabricator to turn the illustrations into lightboxes also opened my eyes to new ideas on how my 2Dart can adapt spatially

What’s your favourite thing about your shortlisted project?
The details! I did a lot of research on the flora and fauna that was endemic to Singapore and made an effort to illustrate the plants with a scientific point of view, balancing fact with fantasy.

What excites you most about being shortlisted?
It's certainly a satisfying validation for all the work put into the project. But I'm most excited to connect with more creatives through this and continue to develop new approaches to art making.

Where do you usually work?
I usually work from home; My studio space is really more of a corner but it somehow works. Paints on one side, laptops and iPad on the other. Occasionally I'll work at a friend's studio or in a cafe.

How long did it take to complete your project?
The whole project (30 m x 2.8m) took about 6 weeks.

What is your dream commission?
I love telling stories with my art and have always had a soft spot for film and theatre. Anything that allows me bring my wild fantasies into reality in a visually tangible way is a dream to me.

What’s your favourite thing to draw?
Whenever I'm feeling creatively stuck, I draw something sheep related. But other than that, I love drawing mythical creatures and fantasy settings. It's nice to venture into alternate realms.

What is your best tip for other illustrators?
Whilst it's good to stay abreast with trends, it's also important to be sincere with your artistic vision. I used to feel insecure about how my work 'fits in' but I've come to embrace the way I create

What are your plans for the future?
To keep making art! I'm always up for new challenges. I've been working on new installations, a new book and learning new things along the way. I never want to stop learning.
