And I Fell Like A Comet

It can be seen upsidedown and upright; the plummeting of self-destruction and the illusion of rising

Interview:

Preferred Pronoun?
He / They / She

Why did you choose to enter this work?
Speaking honestly, it wasn't my initial idea to enter the work but my mentor Sterling Hundley's after he saw the image. I didn't think much of it but his vote of confidence pushed me to enter it.

What’s your favourite thing about your shortlisted project?
Probably the flames. It was one of my earlier attempts at including flames as a stylistic motif and while I might approach them differently now, I am still happy with the emotion they convey.

What excites you most about being shortlisted?
I'm very excited about what opportunities might come from it! As well as the many eyes on my work. I'm very early in my career so being included is extremely validating.

Where do you usually work?
I work about 96% of my pieces on my iPad so I have the ability to work wherever I want, though I mostly work in a little corner at home where my desktop is since I use it for final touches.

How long did it take to complete your project?
I have stated before that it took me about three days, but looking at the handy statistics on Procreate it took me almost seven hours in total from ideating, thumbnailing, and then the final.

What is your dream commission?
I have so many it's hard to pick one! Making a cover for Tor comes to mind or making something for Folio Society.

What’s your favourite thing to draw?
People! Specifically, characters from the IP that I am working on called "No One Lives Forever." That is where the person in this illustration originates from.

What is your best tip for other illustrators?
Be friendly, be critical of your work, and most importantly, be disciplined enough to keep going even when it seems you aren't getting anywhere. It always adds up!

What are your plans for the future?
Continue doing what I'm doing and remind myself that it's all about the journey with illustration as much as the destination.
