Interview:

Why did you choose to enter this work?
I entered this project because it came from my soul. It was a personal project. I envisioned a future where freedom existed without bias, fear, and violence. I illustrated that reality.

What’s your favourite thing about your shortlisted project?
I love that the heart of my piece is joy and everyone cohabitating in prosperity. It's the way the world should be.

What excites you most about being shortlisted?
Being Shortlisted means that my work, which centers around blackness can be amplified on this platform. I want to see more black creators getting opportunities to create black art in media.

Where do you usually work?
I usually work on a desk in my room with multiple screens and a wacom tablet. Most of the ideating is done in dozens of sketchbooks. In this case, the world is my office.

How long did it take to complete your project?
My work is very detailed! It can take anywhere from 3 days to a month depending on the scale and complexity.

What is your dream commission?
My dream commission is to illustrate a women's two piece fitness set for New Balance. I take fitness really seriously and have many visual and practical design ideas for athletic-wear.

What’s your favourite thing to draw?
I love drawing black people. The ranges of tones that exist in brown skin are so complex and delicate. I love when I am able to get it right digitally mixing many different colors to capture skin.

What is your best tip for other illustrators?
My best tip for other illustrators is to never ever miss a deadline. If you are, simple communicate it days ahead of time.

What are your plans for the future?
I plan to continue illustrating as many black and brown people as I can. I also want to independently draw an entire tarot deck.
