Leqing Duan
Bear's Funeral

Un-commissioned | New Talent

Why did you make this work:
This piece was my term assignment at school and was inspired by the documentary Grizzly Man. There are people in society, including me, who are like solitary bears who can't fit into a group and then get swallowed up and die. I wanted to hold a funeral for myself and others of my kind. In this piece, the bear is my avatar, who dies and is given a funeral by nature.

How was the illustration used:
I will be making a number of accordion bound zines and putting these in beautiful packaging for people to read.

How did you make this work:
This series is painted in gouache and pencil on acid-free cartridge paper.
