James Tyrrell
Recapturing the lost icons of Melbourne

Design Product & Packaging

Un-commissioned | Professional

Why did you make this work:
My creative method is to try to recapture period buildings or places and to illustrate them in a style that suits the same period. I regularly refer to archival photos, which gives me the opportunity the capture the piece without any modern-day elements that interfere with the subject in its original form. Through this process, I try to create a period correct travel poster as a final outcome.

What materials and techniques did you use?:
Referencing from archival photos, then illustrated entirely with a mix of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop depending on what is required for the illustration, final touch ups and colour correction is in Photoshop.

How were your illustrations used:
The finished illustrations are printed on high quality paper stock and sold commercially as posters and postcards.
