Hendrik Dahl
Advances and challenges in healthcare and medicine

Interview:

Why did you choose to enter this work?
The work was created to illustrate the difficulties of finding the right balance in medical treatment, especially with regard to increasing usage of pharmaceuticals and the risk of overmedication.

What’s your favourite thing about your shortlisted project?
I wanted to raise awareness. In the discussion about medical care, the patient’s perspective is often underrepresented. To represent this I put the human individual in the centre of the illustration.

What excites you most about being shortlisted?
The recognition of my work and being part of an international selection of great artists.

Where do you usually work?
I'm currently based in Flensburg, Germany and I usually work at home on a small and tidy desk. Photoshop, a Cinitq with a 2nd monitor and a bunch of houseplants still works best for me.

How long did it take to complete your project?
Due to the fact that it was initially created for stock imagery there was no rush to finish it on time and I had fun working on it for about a week.

What is your dream commission?
Every cooperation from which both sides benefit, be it big names or small businesses, is a dream commission to me.

What’s your favourite thing to draw?
'Figures' in all kinds of situations.

What are your plans for the future?
Working on fulfilling projects and meeting people with similar aims.
