- Why did you create this work?
Fishy Friday is an exploration of farce and comedy. The humour lies in the inability of the villagers to work out what is causing the chaos. The penguins are finally discovered in the back of a fish van. However, the real seek and find happens at the end when the reader is invited to reread the book to find a polar bear that has escaped and is hiding in a spread too. Can you find her? - How were your illustrations used?
These illustrations are taken from a picturebook I made on my MA in Children's Book Illustration at Cambridge School of Art. - What materials and techniques did you use?
I wanted to create the feeling of nostalgia associated with a mobile fish van and milk on the doorstep. The textures of Risograph gave it a vintage feel. I made the work in collage. It was scanned into Photoshop and made into two layers. I printed the layers in blue and orange ink on a Risograph printer. Some small edits were made digitally after scanning the prints. - Was this project commissioned?
