Posters and programme booklet for Tonhalle Wil

Painting motifs for posters and programme booklet for Tonhalle Wil, Switzerland

Design Product & Packaging

Commissioned | Professional

Why did you make this work:
The Tonhalle Wil is a cultural center in Switzerland where plays and concerts are performed. I was commissioned to create posters and the programme booklet of the season 2023/24. In order to depict the performances artistically and to appeal to the audience, I painted objects/motifs/protagonists typical to the piece.
2023 / watercolour, acrylic on paper / 40 x 50 cm, each

What materials and techniques did you use?:
For the recognition value of the piece, I wanted to capture the protagonist(s) or an object that represents something from the theatrical performance or that plays an important role in it, using acrylic paint and watercolour (specially to create a playful background sloping to the side). I digitized it and the graphic designer Fulvio Musso added the typography.

How were your illustrations used:
The artworks are used as advertising prints for large-format posters in the city of Wil and for the programme booklet, which is a tear-off pad: each page shows a performance, is removable and can be used as postcard, e.g. The original paintings hang framed in the foyer of the Tonhalle Wil.
