She/her - Why did you create this work?
These illustrations were prompted by an Orange Beak's Instagram challenge #OBOnceUponAWinter. The challenge was to create 6 illustrations based on 6 prompts that together formed a sequence. The first prompt 'The Guest' triggered an unhappy childhood memory and so I was motivated to create a more positive sequence of events, creating a story championing kindness. - How were your illustrations used?
The illustrations were posted as a sequence on Instagram as part of the challenge during December 2023. The illustrations also form part of my portfolio. Further illustrations form the story of two strangers finding friendship through shared interests and the awareness of kindness. - What materials and techniques did you use?
All images were painted traditionally in watercolour and coloured pencil. - Was this project commissioned?

Carol lives and works in Cambridgeshire, UK and graduated from the MA in Children's Book Illustration at Cambridge School of Art in 2023. Since graduation, Carol has continued to develop her portfolio and has also explored how else she can use her illustrations such as surface pattern and on ceramic pieces. Carol has come into illustration from a predominately teaching career. - Where are you currently based?
