Interview:

Preferred Pronoun?
She/Her

Why did you choose to enter this work?
I chose this piece to enter because it is the most succinct, honest piece of art I have created in the last year. Simply, I am proud of it's sincerity of which is hard for me to share usually.

What’s your favourite thing about your shortlisted project?
It continues to be relevant in different forms for both myself and for others. It's direct, both in the illustration's physical gaze and also my own which surprises me!

What excites you most about being shortlisted?
It's really lovely to have a sense of validation for the work I create. Even for all the times it can feel so hard!

Where do you usually work?
I freelance comfortably from home and have been doing so from the comfort of my living room studio since before the pandemic.

How long did it take to complete your project?
I can't remember exactly but most likely it took me one long rainy afternoon to complete this piece.

What is your dream commission?
I'd love to create work for a graphic novel adaptation for a well loved novel or generally more illustration work for books.

What’s your favourite thing to draw?
Simple Portraits.

What is your best tip for other illustrators?
Don't be afraid to share your work! There's literally nothing to lose. Something you make, you may not love, but others might.

What are your plans for the future?
I am currently working on my second graphic novel being published by indie UK publisher Koguchi Press and I plan to release new silk scarves via my online shop. I would also love to grow my Patreon.
