What we’re doing at Bologna
This year we are back at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair, giving talks on publishing contracts, illustrators’ self promotion, and offering business advice at the European Illustrators Forum stand.
There’s always lots to do at the Fair, but in between talking to publishers and seeing the huge breadth of work from across the world, make time for our fantastically useful talks!
Monday 1st April
4.00-5.00pm Business Advice EIF stand Helpdesk Hall 30 B93 – C53
Making business easy: Derek Brazell and Georgia Luckman answer all questions on the business side of the profession. We’ll be able to give 10 minutes to each person for up to 12 people. Pull up a chair and we can talk through any question you have, there’s no question too big or too small!
Tuesday 2nd

Derek Brazell, Georgia Luckman, AOI and Paolo Rui, AI
The talk will cover the main clauses in contracts that illustrators should pay attention to – what to challenge to make agreements favourable to illustrators: Rights being granted to the publisher for a children’s book, and the scope of those rights; Rejection & Cancellation clauses; Moral rights and credit; Advance (breakdown of payments from publisher); Royalties and discount royalties; Subsidiary Rights – translation, USA, merchandising; Competing Works & Option clauses and Termination clauses.
Masterclasses don’t need a reservation, there is free access while seats last, so it is best to arrive in good time.
