Varoom 32 – The New
Varoom 32 is now published
Regular Readers of Varoom will recognise our on-going fascination with the ideas, technologies and issues that illustrators face in the rapidly-changing creative businesses. We thought we’d gather and focus some of that through the theme of this issue – The New – seeking out the new practices and tools that illustrators are working with.
So this issue features stories on: illustrators using social media; on turning a book project into an app; and an incredibly compelling Virtual Reality project. We also fold into this issue the broader question of how to think in new ways about illustration practice? Keen-eyed readers might remember the comment by Michael Salu, in the Varoom 19 Taste issue asking whether, as a medium, illustration, “might need to do more than vocationalise aesthetics.” Illustration can put imagery to work in the service of clients, but illustrators can do more.
