Off Life – Comic Review

Issue #10 September/October 2014 Editor – Daniel Humphry

Review by Sarah Gordon

OffLife Cover edit

Off Life is a free comic, distributed across the UK in bars, cafés and galleries. Issue 10 of this bi-monthly comic once again stands true to its aim of providing a platform for emerging artists through a collection of short narratives, interviews and features.

Offlife 3 edit

Iʼm not going to pretend Iʼm an avid comic book reader, but there is no doubt that Off Life continues to alter my cultural perceptions of the comic book and Iʼm continually entertained and delighted by its content. Iʼm certain that this applies to many others who have previously shied away from the comic book, and therefore it appears that Off Life is succeeding in its aims.

Offlife 1 edit

Issue 10 begins with some words from Daniel Humphry, the Editor of Off Life, as he discusses the nature of reaching ʻthe big number 10ʻ. This issue, despite the milestone, will remain similar to its predecessors.

Offlife2 edit1

Interviews include an insight into Koyama Press and a discussion with Illustrator Joe List, and there’s plenty of talent, including work from Dan Berry and Kristyna Baczynski. The layout is bright, colourful and clear, my only complaint being that Iʼd really like Off Life to be bigger, I want more. Perhaps after the next 10 issues, theyʼll consider celebrating; and with the support, give us a bumper packed issue.
