No-deal Brexit Copyright regulation passes
The statutory instrument for copyright and related rights in the event of a no-deal Brexit – which remains a possibility – was last week passed by both houses of parliament. It is expected to be signed into law shortly.
These Regulations make amendments to legislation in the field of copyright and related rights and, in particular, amend the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, subordinate legislation and retained direct EU legislation.
For example, in the text of the Copyright Act where “an EEA State” occurs, in each place it will be substituted for “the United Kingdom”. These Regulations come into force on exit day.
