New Designers – Discover emerging design
Part 1: 24 – 27 June / Part 2: 01 – 04 July
Business Design Centre, London N1
New Designers this year celebrates its 30th edition, welcoming over 3,000 of this year’s most creative and talented design graduates from across the nation to the Business Design Centre in London, the world’s capital of design. The diversity and calibre of the visitors that New Designers delivers is unrivalled by any other emerging design event.
Taking place over two weeks, the exhibition is divided into two Parts covering a host of creative disciplines including textiles, ceramics, product design, illustration and jewellery. Illustration is particularly well represented this year, with final year students from Falmouth, Birmingham City University, University of Cumbria and many more all exhibiting at the show. The AOI will be supporting the event in week 2 offering advice on professional practice and membership services. Sarah Gordon of the AOI will be giving a presentation called Making Your Mark, A Guide to Post Graduate Illustration, on Saturday 4th July at 13.30 -14.15.
An integral part of New Designers is One Year On, which specifically showcases a group of over 50 emerging designers in their first year of business, selected for their entrepreneurial flair and exceptional quality of work. This year’s curator, jewellery designer and photographer Rheanna Lingham (co-founder of Shoreditch boutique Luna and Curious), has selected emerging illustrators including Augusta Akerman, Cosmo Mulford and Claudia Torrigiani.
On the Wednesday of each week, the coveted New Designers awards are presented to the most innovative graduates in partnership with leading brands and organisations including John Lewis, Mars, Hallmark, Tigerprint, Harlequin and Sanderson. These awards recognise the design world’s rising stars, offering winners and runners-up vital support as they embark on professional careers.
