Meta AI training opt out for Facebook and Instagram
This May, Meta (parent company of Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp) announced in a statement that they will be using all public content from EU Facebook and Instagram for training their AI.

Meta said it will start notifying users in the EU about the training, and will include a link to a form where they can object at any time. “We’ll honor all objection forms,” the company said. If to set to Public, content used can be posts, photos and videos that you post to your profile, stories or reels.
Generative AI produces synthetic content through being trained on datasets that include a huge amount to data. Meta, along with many other large tech companies are continuing to feed their own generative AI, and through their platforms have access to a vast amount of date from users.
To avoid your personal data (including posts of your work) being utilised this way, which is considered an infringement of your copyright, we recommend opting out. This should be done before the 26th of May.
Opt out links are here, and you will need to be logged into your Facebook or Instagram accounts to get access:
As everyone’s data will be swept up this way, we recommend that you encourage all those you know using these platforms to also opt out. Even when not a creator, everyone’s personal images and communications should not be appropriated for use by generative AI.
