Malicious Damage: Illustration Research colloquium

A one day Illustration Research colloquium looking at collage

Venue: Southampton Solent University

Using the defaced library books of Kenneth Halliwell and Joe Orton as a starting point, this colloquium will allow attendees to explore the accessible and powerful medium of collage, through theory and practice.

For delegates arriving the evening prior to the Symposium, there will be a screening of ‘Prick Up Your Ears’, Stephen Frears, 1987. With a special introduction by Professor David Ferry. Film Screening, 29/10/2014, 17:30hrs

Colloquium, 30/10/2014 Morning Session: 10-12:00

Ilsa Colsell, author of the will use her recently published book ‘Malicious Damage: the defaced library books of Kenneth Halliwell and Joe Orton’ as a case study to introduce the power and influence of collage http://www.ilsacolsell.com

Phillip Hoare (author, biographer and broadcaster) : Will expand on this case study and provide a broader cultural picture- Halliwell & Ortons relationship, Homosexuality laws and attitudes, the 60’s and the trappings of success… http://www.philiphoare.co.uk

Delegates will apply their knowledge by choosing to engage with one of two practical, collage based workshops led by the following practitioners:
