WIA2022 Longlist Category Highlights: Site Specific – Professional

The World Illustration Awards 2022 Longlist features 500 projects by New Talent and Professional illustrators from all over the world across ten categories. This year, the awards celebrate great illustration!

Commissioned by Gather Co. and partially funded by the City of Edmonton Facade Renewal Program, Hana is a mural commissioned as part of a revitalisation effort, turning the building into a beacon of light to bring brightness in the dark months and to amplify the sun in the summer months.
The piece was created by hand, and then digitised to create stencils. Each shape was painted by hand in contrasting black and gold to create the final mural.
Artello is Keith-yin Sun and Judi Chan. They are based in Edmonton, Canada.
Ginko Yang: Formula of Inspiration
The Chinese milk tea brand Heytea commissioned this mural to launch a new shop in Shenzhen. The artwork was made for the hoardings that surrounded the shop while it was under construction.
The design is both graphic and soft, with an eclectic mix of imagery, and limited colours to tie it all together. The images show creative ways of making tea, with characters and shapes adding a sense of storytelling.

Katerina Voronina: Brave Wall. Portrait of Marielle Franco
This is a mural on a 10-story building in Berlin, on the theme of women who fight/fought for human rights. It features a portrait of Marielle Franco, an inspiring Brazilian human rights activist, alongside other images of women of different professions and hobbies. The message of the work is that all women should be free to choose their own path.
This large-scale mural was painted in acrylic over six days. It was commissioned by Amnesty International, Germany, and the Urban Nation Museum, Berlin.
Katerina Voronina was born and raised in Moscow, and is now based in Berlin, Germany.
Linsen Fan’s 30 metre-longmural was designed for Jianye District Government in Nanjing, China. It is designed to light up the environment of the civic square, so that people can exercise and chat in a colourful environment. Jianye District has strong musical, literary and sporting atmosphere, which is reflected in the illustration.

Niv Tishbi: The Hebrew University of Jerusalem – Dean of Students office
Niv was invited by The Hebrew University of Jerusalem to create murals for the foyer of the Dean of Students office building. The murals encompass the essence of the dean’s office activity in an upward movement of growth, support, and guidance towards graduation.
Beginning with digital illustrations, the designs were made into smaller pieces and then cut to shape in four types of wood to provide a range of tones and colours.
Niv Tishbi is an illustrator and visual artist based in Tel Aviv, Israel.
This colourful illustration was featured on a utility box (a piece of street furniture that supplies electricity). Yuke was inspired by the charming neighbourhood in Uptown Chandler, recording its vibrant community and the beautiful sunset.
