Facing History: Contemporary Portraiture explores artists responses to the idea of portraiture over the past 2o years as well as examining how portraiture is used today in passports and identity cards. The exhibition holds 80 prints, colour woodcuts, black and white etchings, paper silhouettes, lino cuts and photographs drawn from the V&A’s collection. Work from over 20 artists including Julian Opie, Grayson Perry, Thomas Ruff, Maud Sulter and Gavin Turk. The display highlights how contemporary artists have taken inspiration from traditional modes of portraiture such as portrait miniatures, medals and death masks.
