Artist’s Resale Right – DACS survey
The Artist’s Resale Right entitles artists and their estates to a modest share of a sale or ‘royalty’, each time their work changes hands between an art dealer, auction house or gallery.
The Government is currently gathering evidence on the Artist’s Resale Right (ARR) in the UK to understand its costs in administration for the art market against its benefits for visual artists and their estates. This will feed into a review at EU level in 2015.
DACS (Design and Artists Copyright Society) has been asked to contribute to the review on behalf of artists and their estates. To ensure the Government recognises artists’ and estates’ opinions and understands the significant impact of ARR royalties on their income, livelihood and practice, they have launched a survey – open until midnight, Monday 26 May 2014.
It’s important to hear from emerging artists who are likely to benefit in the future as well as artists and estates currently benefiting from ARR royalties.
