Ensuring your illustration work is seen by commissioners is an essential part of every illustrator’s business plan, and we’re aware of how time consuming sourcing new clients can be (these updated editions took a long time to complete).
We’ve contacted all the art directors included in the Directories to confirm their details and get a short description of the area they work in and also included their company’s website so you can do further research to see if your artwork style and approach could be suitable for that company. Client contact details include name, email address, website, social handles alongside the short description of the type of work commissioned where given by the contact.
The Editorial Directory includes details for magazines, newspapers and online platforms for the UK and some USA groups. They commission illustrations in a range of sizes from spot illustrations to a full page, covering a wide range of subject matter from lifestyle, sport and food, popular culture to politics and individual in-depth subjects.
The Advertising Directory includes a number of design companies along with advertising ones. Many companies operate under a wide umbrella of communications for their clients and include animation in their commissioning range. Subject matter they commission will be broad, from everyday items to cool up-to-the-minute topics, and include work for children as well adults.
The Publishing Directory lists clients commissioning illustration across adult fiction, children’s books, young adult, non-fiction and more. These include a broad range of book types, from romance, science fiction, biography, sport and adventure to literary fiction and heavily illustrated fiction and non-fiction (science, natural world, history, culture) for younger readers.
The Directories are delivered by email as a PDF and separate Excel spreadsheets, making it quick and easy for you to research and contact each possible client.
