Idyllic Arts and Crafts Gardens Talk: a haven for our troubled times: Leatherhead Community Association – Online

A talk by Dr Anne Anderson vividly illustrated by the works of Jekyll and Lutyens and of artists Miles Birket Foster and Helen Allingham

The recent pandemic encouraged many commuters to protect their well-being by tending their gardens. This echoed Victorian nostalgia for a pre-industrial countryside and rural way of life. Artists like Mile Birket Foster and Helen Allingham painted idyllic images of cottages and gardens. Edwin Lutyens and Gertrude Jekyll blended both. Dr Anderson’s talk will be vividly illustrated by local examples.
