Drawing Inspiration – An evening with Pam Smy

Join us for an evening with the inimitable Pam Smy as she talks us through her influences and working practice.

Join us for our first AOI Children’s Picture books Meet-up event – an online quarterly meet up hosted by picture book illustrator Rachel Stubbs, and author-illustrator and educator Emily Haworth-Booth. Open to those at all stages of development – from those just starting out, graduates early in their career, more established illustrators and authors or anyone with a passion for picture books!

During the evening, we’ll hear more about Pam Smy’s upcoming illustrated novel, The Hideaway (Pavilion, Sept 2021), the vital role places and spaces play in her work, how drawing from observation informs her imaginative drawing, and how she’s found working creatively through a global pandemic.

After the talk there will be plenty of time for Q&A.

Pam has worked for a range of UK publishers including Penguin Random House, The Folio Society, David Fickling Books and Pavilion. Her first graphic novel, Thornhill, was shortlisted for the CILIP Kate Greenaway Prize in 2018. She has also worked as an illustration tutor at the Cambridge School of Art, principally on the MA Children’s Book Illustration course, for many years.
