Drawing Diversity: Womxn Cultivating Dynamic Space in Illustration

Online Events

An In-Conversation session with We Are Batch – Daniéla de Lange (founder) and Lené van Heerden (creative director). Book below or via our Eventbrite here.

From our Diversity and Equality roundtable talks we understood that some illustrators would value a space to explore how to increase the diversity depicted in their illustration practice. This session is the seventh of a short series to explore that.

Daniéla de Lange and Lené van Heerden of We Are Batch, a South African all-female production studio specialising in illustration and animation will share their experience of inspiring projects which explore the importance of representation in illustration and how they navigate their careers and encourage diversity in their collective work. Daniéla and Lené, in conversation with AOI board director Montana Forbes, will discuss why it is important to them to champion talent from third world countries and the significance of inclusive imagery in illustration and tech sectors. They will delve into the process of how they operate, interpreting briefs, managing client expectations, and bridging illustration and animation.

The session will provide practical insights on operating a studio, drawing from different styles, outlooks, and approaches as a route to creating and portraying a diverse narrative. This platform will allow a space to respectfully discuss varying approaches to depicting diversity.

Please note: This online event will not be recorded.
