Drawing Diversity: Representing Different Skin Tones

Practical insights into capturing shades of skin complexions as a route to depicting diverse characters. Book below or via our Eventbrite.

We understood from our Diversity and Equality roundtable talks that some illustrators would value a space to explore how to increase the diversity depicted in their illustration practice. This session is the fourth of a short series to explore that.

Candice Tavares, professionally known as NoelleRX will share her work and experience of realising a personal project in which she self-publishes a book with positive affirmations to empower multi-cultural children. NoelleRX, in conversation with AOI board director Montana Forbes, will discuss what inspired the project and why it was important to her. She will discuss the process of self-publishing from concept to completion, her technique, her observations, and awareness of the impact of representation.

The session will provide practical insights into capturing shades of skin complexions as a route to depicting diverse characters, and will allow a space to respectfully discuss approaches to depicting diversity.
