Why did you choose to enter this work?
I entered with a short story for the Alternative Publishing category because I work with in zines and graphic novels.
What’s your favourite thing about your shortlisted project?
The proposal for the graphic short story competition placed a question: Do you have an original story to tell? It was a great starting point for me.
What excites you most about being shortlisted?
I make stories so that people would read them. Stories are important. It feels great to have an audience.
Where do you usually work?
I like digital media. I use Procreate with iPad and Photoshop with Cintiq. With iPad I can work and draw anywhere, like in the balcony or in the cafés, with Cintiq I draw by my desk.
How long did it take to complete your project?
I noticed the competition quite late and therefore had only a week to work with my story. Without the deadline it would have taken me more than a week to finish multiple pages for a graphic novel.
What is your dream commission?
I love visual storytelling and I love to draw. Picture books and graphic novels are my dream commissions!
What’s your favourite thing to draw?
I like nature and I like food and I like people. Anything that involves something of these is my favourite thing to draw.
What is your best tip for other illustrators?
It has been good to do different things and to go through different times. Bad times gives me tools to get through hard stuff. Good times gives me confidence and makes me more appreciative.
What are your plans for the future?
I am drawing a picture book about my grandmother. I also have a baffling biography in my mind that I am bewildered to make a script and hopefully turn that into a graphic novel.
