Michelle Mackintosh is an award-winning book designer and illustrator with a degree in Graphic Design. She works closely with publishers to design lifestyle and cultural books on subjects ranging from cooking, craft, pop culture, gardening, city guides and diaries. On a single project she may design, illustrate, art direct, style the photography and typeset, she may even photograph the book too. She is a passionate reader and lover of making things by hand.
She has written two books on analogue correspondence: Snail Mail and Care Packages (Hardie Grant Books, 2015-2016), and co written, designed and illustrated five books on Japan: Tokyo Precincts, Tokyo Pocket Precincts, Kyoto Pocket Precincts, Onsen of Japan (all published by Hardie Grant Books, 2015-2019) and Tokyo (Plum, Pan Macmillan 2018).
Her books have won three ABDA (Australian Book Designers Association) awards, her design work has won three AGDA (Australian Graphic Design) awards and her cover for Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight in German won the Coverpreise 2007 der Jury der Jungen Leser und der Jury der Jungen Kritiker. Her work has been exhibited in Tokyo and her authored books have been translated into 4 languages.
