Preferred Pronoun?
She/Her
Why did you choose to enter this work?
I feel I managed to achieve a real sense of movement with Komali's braids blowing in the wind, I am also really proud of the texture and her stance as she towers over the Barbican.
What’s your favourite thing about your shortlisted project?
The aforementioned braids are my favourite thing, I feel they really make the piece shine. The texture was so fun to draw and I love the definition and movement they have.
What excites you most about being shortlisted?
This is the first time I have entered into the WIA and I am so pumped to be shortlisted, this in itself is such a huge achievement for me. I've worked my butt to get here and it just feels great!
Where do you usually work?
I have made a really cute and inviting space filled with art in my home in Footscray, Melbourne. My dog and a hot cup of tea are always close by and are essentials to my workspace :)
How long did it take to complete your project?
This piece took around 10 hours from sketch to finished product, definitely the most time consuming task was adding all of the texture but it was worth it.
What is your dream commission?
I would LOVE to do a series for Magic Spoon cereal! They have worked with some amazing illustrators and I would jump at the chance to work with them.
What’s your favourite thing to draw?
I'm really inspired by nature and love to draw Australian native plants, flowers and birds that are bursting with colour and personality.
What is your best tip for other illustrators?
Ask others for advice, I regularly reach out to my peers for advice and feedback and love to help others when they come to me for the same. I think we can all share tips and learn from each other.
What are your plans for the future?
I would really love to spend more time animating my pieces. I've been dabbling a little with animation over the last couple of years and it is so fun to see my art come to life!
